Synopsis

Melita chafes against everything in her life–authority, expectations, long skirts, even the family curse. For a 17 year old servant girl in Ancient Greece, even once-in-a-lifetime opportunities come with limitations. Trained as a bodyguard and a warrior, she goes Delphi, the center of the known the world, but she’s going as a lady’s maid to a young princess.

Once there, she realizes that all of Delphi is vulnerable to attack, but she’s an outsider and no one believes her. Political power, magic, the gods playing favorites, and an outside evil all battle for control. Melita has to protect the princess, tap into her own magic, save the world, and not lose her heart.

The Goddess & The Bee is a joy to read. Jill Jenkins wove an extraordinary story with dexterity. Once I started reading I didn’t want to stop. I thoroughly enjoyed this book.

I got this book for my teenage daughter, but I ended up reading it along with her and loved it. It actually was a page-turner, and I read it all the way to the end. I enjoyed learning about the customs and daily life of the ancient Greeks, with some new vocab thrown in along the way. I’m eagerly looking forward to Book 2!
