It took me over four years to finish writing my first book. From writing most of it longhand on a yellow legal pad to final draft in WORD. Got comfortable with that particular genre, ‘Magical Realism’ or ‘Urban Fantasy’ depending on who you ask. A touch of romance, Fae, witches, good guys, bad guys…. So comfortable I wrote three more in the same genre BAM BAM BAM. And now I find myself writing something just a little different, still Magical Realism, but this time there’s a murderer or murderers on the loose. And I am finding myself getting stuck. And I wonder if it’s because I can wrap my head around Witches, Fae, ghosts, etc., but not murder. Trying to climb inside the head of a killer is a little different. I refuse to give up. I didn’t with the first one, and I won’t with this one. It’s not like I can’t come up with suspects, there are plenty of those. The grisly, guts part doesn’t bother me. I was a surgical nurse for 25 years. Guts, I’m used to. I think it may be; how can a seemingly ‘normal’ person get to the point they’re willing to end someone else’s life? Of course many of the characters aren’t entirely human. Okay, that’s enough of a tease for now. I will be doing my own personal Novel Writing Month in November, challenging myself to write for at least 4 hours, 5 days a week. It’s how I got 50,000 words of MythMatched written. I’ll be posting on my author Facebook page at least once a week in November, checking in, letting you know how I am getting on with the whole grisly murder thing.
